Day 10 Werrimull to Curlwaa
This is our last riding day for the 1st leg. We have misty rain as we head off this morning.
But first I have to tell you about our experience at the Werrimull Hotel- Victorias most outback pub. First i will say that the current owners are fairly new to this hotel. We have been here a number of times before and have had pleasant stays. Usually we camp out the back of the pub but were told that this was no longer possible and instead we were to camp across the road. They have 8 rooms and all rooms had been booked out by us innthe last couple of days. Everyone got allocated their rooms and the campers were guven an area under the pubs carport to camp as it had been raining for hours and everyone was wet and pretty miserable. There was a race for the hot showers so the pub started running out of hot water so a few got to shower in the truckies shower. While this was happening then the smoke alarm started going and in the end had to be disconnected. The ladies toilet became blocked and started to overflow then the truckies toilet got blocked. So we all used the men's toilet which seemed to be ok. Dinner was a success and everyone relaxed and into bed early. Collis and I were parked out in the backyard and camped there for the night. In the morning I got up to go to the toilet and thought i would check out the ladies room in the pub. I walked in and stepped into ankle deep water-yuk!! Everyone had to use the men's toilet only. We were all happy to hit the road.
There was a septic tanker outside the pub as we were driving off. Carolyn and I headed to Mildura and the one and only bike shop. We helped Collis load up and made the morning tea for him and sent him on his way following the riders. Carolyn ended up buying a new bike as she kept breaking spokes.
The riders found the first 5km was drizzly with a bit of a headwind. After morning tea they rode 13 kms of dirt road which was a bit muddy at the beginning but then smoothed out. Early into Curlwaa Caravan Park. Some confusion over everyones bookings and the first Park that has wanted to see our Covid certificates.
We eventually got it all sorted out and we settled in.
