Day 4 First day on the road

https://www.strava.com/activities/7079406035 This is the link to Ahn Thu's Strava page on todays ride. The day started early as Collis called the briefing for 7 am and surprise, surprise, everyone was on time and present. They were mostly looking tired, excited or worried.
Today they were being led to Port Elliot by Roger. Roger is a local past rider of Cycle Across Oz and he generously accepted the challenge to lead the sheep to greener pastures. Collis instilled in them to ride as a group all day. Being the first riding day, there was no way Collis and I would catch them for morning tea. Especially when Collis was required to puck one last rider up from the airport this morning- Georg from Germany who has been trying to get back for another cycle cross ride since Covid started. Tess and I made large amount of sandwiches for the lunch break. When Collis got back with Georg we were then able to get packed. The riders had morning tea at The Tin Shed. Lorraine was in charge of the business card. Apparently service and staff were lovely. It wasn't long before the phonecall arrives from the first rider who has lost the group and not sure where he's going- Peter L told to get up his google maps and make his way to Myponga. Alf, who climbed Willunga Hill on his own arrived first and a long time before tge rest. Peter L came in next and he thinks he climbed the hill as well. The rest came in dribs and drabs with Lorraine and Peter J managing the back runners. After lunch they had another 35 kms to go. Carolyn had busted a spoke so was considering getting a lift in the car but was talked into finishing the day. Everyone made it with a couple even doing an extra few kms as they got lost. Roger couldn't keep leading them all day as he had a bus home to catch at 4pm. Carolyn contacted the Victor Harbour Cycle shop about her spokes and they were very, very helpful. A guy called Spence came out and took the bike then said he would bring it back fixed and trued in the morning. Most riders walked to the Family Royal Hotel for steak night and everyone pleased with their steaks.
