Day 7 Rest Day Waikerie
Everybody seemed to sleep well last night after half the group went out to an Indian Restaurant and a quarter went to the pub and the rest ate in camp. We were in the Indian group and the food was very good but service was a bit slow. They informed us that we were the first big group that they had cooked for. They did very well and they were lovely people.
A bit of a sleep in but then tragedy occurred. After Collis and I made our bed, I went to close the tail door of the new van when we both heard a huge snap. One of the strutts that holds the door up snapped off at the bottom join. Not knowing how to remove the strutt, we were very concerned we would not be able to shut the door and therefore not be able to drive the car. I was nearly in tears and Collis was not a happy chappy. Anyway the nearest strutt for our model is in Singapore and Mornington Mercedes will not order the part until it is inspected by their service department. So to get this fixed could end up taking 6 months by the look of it. Anyway I got the strutt off after some instruction from Mildura Mercedes. So at least we can open and close the door.
The rest of the day was pretty well uneventful. The riders did some food shopping and went for walks and bike rides around the town and silo artworks. Most ate dinnr in at camp tonight.
