Day 8 Waikerie to Renmark

Up at the crack of dawn but what can you expect when we are all in bed by 7 or 7.30pm. Once again there doesn't seem to be any night owls on this tour. The first group left around 7.20 am and Collis gave the second group a briefing at 7.30 but they were all racing down the road by 7.40am. Needless to say they had mostly overtaken the first group within 15-20 minutes. Morning tea was made for 10 am but the majority had arrived at the Overland Corner Hotel well before 9.30. I arrived about 20 to 10 but i only had the tea and coffee. The morning tea food was with Collis who was aiming for a 10 am arrival. Chris was obviously very hungry as she was quite vocal about the late arrival of food. Collis arrived at 5 to 10. Lunch was at Monash at the Adventure Playground. I couldn't get any of the riders to try out the long slide. I went into the maze but forgot to let anyone know and then I got lost and started to panic a little thinking I may be lost forever and no-one would even realise until they got hungry at tomorrows morning tea. We arrived in Renmark at a good time for all those who hadn't voted could vote here. The weather has been great riding weather but a headwind mostly for the first 60 kms. Tonights campground is again on dirt but plenty of space although the riders always seem to bunch up.

Day 5 Port Elliot to Milang.

There was a sprinkling of rain overnight with lots of wind as well. The temperature has dropped today and we think our beautiful blue skies and perfect temperatures may have disappeared for awhile. Short, sharp showers on and off throughout the morning but the riders said it wasn't too bad at all. 2mm of rain overnight and throughout the day. Much shorter distances today and the wind was fairly favourable throughout. Collis told everyone to meet at the Mouth of the Murray and then into Goolwa for morning tea at the Goolwa Bakery. Some chose not to do the mouth and went straight into Goolwa. Carolyn's bike was returned in good time and he only charged her $40- best service ever. About 10 of us arrived at the Goolwa bakery but not everyone. I call Collis and he's gone to the wrong bakery and grabbed riders as they rode past to have a drink at his bakery while the rest of us were wondering where the hell they had all got to. Day 3 Rounding up the troops.

Well if you allow yourself to get overtired then you shouldn't complain about a poor nights sleep. Hey Collis and maybe a good idea to listen to Kathy and have a Nanna Nap in the afternoon. But no, he soldiered on. More pickups from the airport and more airplane delays and cancellations. It's time to get over the Covid excuse, pull your finger out and fix the problems. Ahn-Thu, Greg and Peter L arrive today. Alf and Tess arrived by car yesterday and we are only missing Peter S and John F. Try ringing both boys a number of times and eventually get hold of Pete but he says he can't talk because he's at a conference at the airport. He forgot I somehow have him on Find a Friend app and can see him at some winery in Adelaide. What is he up to?? Then John rings back and says he can't talk as they were bringing out the port! Day 16 Bush Camp to Wilcannia

Maureen stayed in her tent last night and preferred to sleep through dinner as she was feeling unwell. She rode her best day ever yesterday but seems to have knocked herself out. We have a few now who have woken with a croaky voice this morning. John T, John F, Ahn Thu and Maureen. No high temperatures once I moved them all away from the fire. A couple of riders read 39.2C but a few minutes away from the heat and they all returned to normal. Maureen has decided to stay in the car again today as she is still feeling unwell with a bit of a cough. The ride was good again today with another tail wind and everyone enjoying the ride. 120kms and finished fairly early afternoon. Got into Wilcannia around lunchtime. Nice little community camp ground with free washing machines and huge grassed area for camping. We were right on the Darling which was right up. We all went to the Golf Club for Chinese dinner.
